CHURCH SCHOOL HISTORY
By the 1940’s Saint John’s had
established a parish church school for the education of the faithful.
The School originally offered two programs. A Sunday School
was established to teach the Traditions and Theology of the Orthodox Faith
and a Russian School to teach the language and customs of our people.

By the 1960’s the Russian School
ceased due to low enrollment but the Sunday School program continued
for many years. Currently the Sunday School Program has an enrollment
of approximately 30 youths and 15 adults. The Program consists of
3 to 4 classes for the children, established each year according
to the grade levels needed and an adult class that meets for a 3-5 week
educational series several times in the course of a year.
Both the Adult and Children Programs are offered on Sunday mornings at
the conclusion of the Liturgy.
In addition to the Educational Program,
the Sunday School sponsors “Summer Camp” at
Camp Nazareth in Mercer
PA. Each student who is enrolled in the Sunday School Program and
is an active participant in the life of the Church is eligible to attend
Summer Camp. The Sunday School program has been able, through generous
donations, to arrange for a week of camping and Charter Bus transportation
for its students. The Program also sponsors a reading Program for
adults during the Lenten Periods before the Nativity and Pascha.
Recent books offered have been
The Way of A Pilgrim
and
The Salt
of the Earth, both classics of Orthodox spirituality.
